Ch. 8 + 11 weekly readings
Chapter 8: Physical Development in the preschool years + Chapter 11: Physical Development in Middle Childhood

In chapter 8 I learned, that significant development is still occuring after infancy into the preschool years. These years are characterized by changes in physical body, gross and fine motor skills and their senses. I learned that at this stage children are becoming independent but still need help from adults. So many things are happening to them and they need our love and guidance to be healthy beings.

In chapter 11 I learned, that nutrition is the key factor to development during these years. I never knew how much nutrition affects many aspects of a child's life. Children should be encouraged to be physically active to ensure good health. I believe that if all children learn these things while they are young it will become the norm for them and they can live longer, healthier lives.

I agree with your comments about nutrition and children's health. It is hard to get kids to eat right, but it is worth the effort so that they can grow up knowing how to stay healthy. We watched Shaq's Big Challenge this week. The show focuses on obese children. The show was sad and eye-opening. It influenced my son to want to eat better. For that reason alone, I plan to watch the show as often as possible.
